Webinar

Register Here

Time: 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM ET

Description: Thrive, struggle, or just maybe survive. Soil health is a critical part of plant health. Managing trees in spaces where people live – the urban environment – is challenging for many reasons though nearly universally poor soil conditions top the list. Explore the hierarchy of soil constraints that matter most to roots to help focus your management inputs, time, and your client’s resources.

Presenter: Dr. Grant L. Thompson is a landscape architect, horticulturist, and urban soil ecologist. His 20+ year career in the green industry has moved between private practice consulting and research. Past roles include project landscape architect, assistant professor for the Department of Horticulture at Iowa State University, and currently as a research soil scientist for the Davey Institute, a division of the Davey Tree Expert Co. He takes a wholistic systems approach to site design and management that integrates vegetation, soil, and water. Grant currently serves on the national ASLA Climate and Biodiversity Action Committee and is the Past Chair of the Board of Directors of the IA-IL-WI-based non-profit Trees Forever. He has prior service with the Iowa Urban Tree Council and Iowa Stormwater Education Partnership.
