Participants will be expected to provide input, sharing the knowledge they have gained through experience.
CEUs: Ohio Pesticide Recertification 1.0 Core, .5 6A
  • Proper Tree Planting with Bob Meoak, Joe Puperi, and Alistair Reynolds - Learn about the proper techniques for the installation of trees following the newly updated Sample Ohio Tree Planting Specifications. Students will learn how to apply this standard to their everyday tree-planting assignments.  Participants may receive a certificate of completion and appear on the Chapter’s consumer site, Trees4Ohio.org
  • Soil Science with Zack Shier - In this field-based class, Zack will explore the fundamentals of soil composition and highlight the key differences between urban and forest soils. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the relationship between mineral content, organic matter, and soil biology—critical components for arborists aiming to support healthy, resilient trees. The session will examine how healthy soils can mitigate pest and disease pressures while promoting longer living, more resilient urban trees. Zack will also demonstrate how to interpret lab-based soil analyses, utilize PHC (Plant Health Care) trucks for soil treatment applications, and evaluate modern products designed to enhance tree nutrition and soil health.
  • Interactive Tree & Plant ID Walkabout with Brady Holko -Walk with us as we learn how to identify some of the trees in our park.

There will also be two half-day sessions:

  • Aerial Rescue with Evan Beck & Jacob Nau - Join Jacob and Evan for an interactive Aerial Rescue Training course. This hands-on class will focus on the fundamentals of effective Aerial Rescue in Trees. Scene size-up (assessment), critical information to relay to dispatchers/first responders, techniques for gaining access to victims, patient assessment and care/packaging, and decision-making concepts to aid rescuers are all topics that will be covered during the class. Participants are encouraged, but not required, to bring their own PPE and climbing equipment to participate in the training.
  • Tree Felling Notches & Techniques with Brian Goodall - In the course, we will cover chainsaw safety, the 5-step felling plan, notches, and back cuts. You will need chainsaw protection (chaps or pants, helmet, eye and ear protection, work gloves, and boots). Participants will be using chainsaws, so please come prepared.
