Title: Emerging Tree Pests & Diseases in Ohio

Description:  Learn about existing and emerging pest and disease issues in Ohio (including EAB, Oak Wilt, Beech leaf disease, hemlock woolly adelgid, and spotted lantern fly), how they affect your work, and what Holden and other regional partners are doing to get you the best information to combat them.

Presenter:  Rachel Kappler & Amanda Wood, Holden Forests & Gardens

Bios: Rachel Kappler is the liaison between partners of the Great Lakes Basin Forest Health Collaborative. She hosts workshops, webinars, training for partners to help achieve their forest health goals. In addition, she helps facilitate partners tree activities for pest-resistance breeding in our current priority species, ash, beech, and eastern hemlock. Previously her work was focused on research related to the ecological interactions within the ash-EAB forest ecosystem and ash restoration efforts. 

Amanda Wood is the Urban Community Forester at Holden Forests & Gardens. In this position, she advocates awareness for the value of trees. She graduated from Illinois College with a bachelor’s in Biology and French and from the University of Pennsylvania with a master’s in Environmental Studies. Prior to starting at Holden, she worked at Davey Resource Group as an Inventory Arborist located in St. Louis, Missouri area. She is a certified arborist and is Tree Risk Assessment Qualified.
