Position Description

Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) is currently seeking Tree Trimmers to join our Natural Resources Unit.  With over 400 parks and 6200 areas of park land, our Tree Trimmers play a key role in maintaining our urban forest and in helping Parks enhance ecological preservation and environmental sustainability.  The SPR mission is to work with all citizens to be good stewards of our environment, and to provide safe and welcoming opportunities to play, learn, contemplate and build community.  We promote healthy people, a healthy environment and strong communities.  We highly value diversity and excellent customer service. 
 
Under general supervision, this position will perform tree tasks to maintain the health and condition of the urban forest to provide a safe environment, reduce risks related to trees, protect and preserve the urban forest canopy for park users. The most competitive candidates for this position will have an ISA Arborist Certification, a passion for preserving and caring for trees and experience working with storm damaged trees and hazard tree felling.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

One-year experience in urban forestry, landscape maintenance, tree farming, or tree trimming which involves the use of safety harnesses, climbing equipment, aerial hydraulic lift trucks, rigging, and chain saws and includes the application of arboricultural practices, proper pruning methods, and related safety practices (combinations of education, training, and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis for comparability).

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Required to stand, walk, climb trees, or bend for extended periods.  Frequently required to lift objects weighing in excess of 50 pounds. May require handling or working with toxic/hazardous substances. Required to work outdoors in all types of weather. Required to be on-call at all times in case of emergencies. Required to work at varying heights and within legal/safe distances to electrical hazards and with the possible dangers of falling. Required to operate machinery and equipment with extreme caution, including hydraulic aerial lift trucks, wood chippers, stump cutters, winches, chainsaws, and handsaws.
 
LICENSE, CERTIFICATION AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

A current "FULL" driving abstract from the Department of Licensing must be submitted with your application by the closing date for consideration in this process. Candidates with driving history that does not meet our current safety standards will be disqualified from consideration.

0 POINTS – PARKING TICKETS
1 POINT EACH – Any moving violation, collision, stop sign, defective equipment, speeding, seat belt, failure to signal, cell phone, etc. – any and all moving violations
4 POINTS EACH – Suspended license, negligent driving, reckless driving, racing.
5 POINTS EACH – Hit & Run, Vehicular Assault, DUI/DWI or other Alcohol-related offense.
 
*If your total score is more than 3 points in the last 5 years, you may not be considered for employment in a position that requires driving.
